Like its predecessor, Hollow Knight: Silksong will be a 2D Metroidvania game, but other than some initial information in 2019 when it was announced and some updates in 2022, Team Cherry has been surprisingly quiet. But the important thing is to realize that it wouldn't look better, just different. Unless they were deliberately changing up the art style just so it would feel more different, it would look "samey", in a way. Hollow Knight Silksong is more comparable to a second season of a beautiful anime than a sequel of a 3D game, the way I see it. No one expects that second season to look like a massive leap in visual fidelity, because it's just not something that was limited by the technology available before, so the expections are mostly "I hope they keep the investment high enough for us to get at least the same level of consistently great animation". Even when it's something that really deserves it like some prejudiced comment that got the poster a permaban, because all it does is derail the thread.Īnyway, to further illustrate my point, the way I see it, with hand drawn 2D HD graphics, it's almost like an anime that has gorgeous looking animation and then gets a second season a year or two down the line.
